PROUSE SWIM SCHOOL FAQ’s

Q: How long do lessons run for?

A: Lessons are 30 minutes in duration. Lessons will start promptly on the half hour, so we ask that you arrive before your child’s class time to ensure your child gets their full half hour lesson.  However please do not enter the pool enclosure until it is their actual lesson start time.

Q: Does a parent/care giver need to be in the water with my child?

A: We require a parent/care giver in the water with children up to approximately 3 years of age. This may vary depending on the child’s abilities. Some children are ready before 3 years of age to move in to a class without a parent, other children can be over 3 years of age. Each child’s needs are individually considered on enrolment.

Q: How do I receive feedback on my child’s progress?

A: As you can appreciate to keep classes on schedule our teachers will not be able to have lengthy conversations with parents/carers on pool deck. If you need to discuss your child’s progress or any issues, please feel free to contact Kerryn on 0428 403840 or email kerryn@prouseswimschool.com.au

We love that you like to observe your child’s progress in their swimming lesson however we ask that noise inside the enclosure be kept to a minimum. Excessive talking is a distraction for both the children and our teachers.

We also ask that you reframe from conversation/coaching with your child while they are in the water. Your child is in good hands with our teachers and they can become confused as to whom to take their instruction from if there is someone other than the teacher giving instructions.

Q: Can I cancel my lessons at any time?

A: Lessons will follow the Victorian school term dates. Your child’s place will be secure for the full school year unless you advise us that you wish to cancel their place at a particular time. We must receive at least 2 weeks’ notice of cancellation and unfortunately a place back in to our program cannot be guaranteed once you cancel your enrolment.

Q: How much do lessons cost?

A: Swimming lessons at our Horsham location are $16.80 for the first child, $16.80 for second and $15.80 for every additional child. Swimming lessons at Nhill (Hospital Pool, Ryan Lane) are $17.80 per child (no discounts for multiple children at Nhill). At Prouse Swim School we work to the Victorian school term, therefore the total cost of lessons will depend on how many weeks there are in a term.

We do not run lessons on public holidays and you are not charged for this if your lesson falls on a public holiday.

An invoice is raised for the entire term and payment must be received prior to the end of the current term to guarantee a spot in the following term. Payment in full is preferred however we are happy to discuss payment arrangements.

Please note that there is a waiting list for all of our classes and payment in full (or a payment arrangement) will secure your place. Failing to make payment may mean your child’s place is offered to someone from our waiting list. On your statement you will find a reference number, please use this number when making a bank transfer to allow for easy reconciliation.

Q: What should my child wear to their lesson?

A: We ask that all our children from Level 3 up wear a swim cap. The swim cap is optional in our baby classes however it is a good idea to start early and we encourage babies to wear caps but it is not compulsory. Wearing a cap keeps hair out of the child’s eyes as well as helping to keep our pool clean.

Any child that is not 100% toilet trained MUST wear a reusable swim nappy.  Please no disposable swim nappies.

Learning to swim can be hard and we therefore ask that your child wears correct fitting swim wear. Loose and large fitting swimwear creates a lot of resistance when trying to swim. In particular rash vests must be firm fitting.

We recommend correctly fitted goggles, particularly once your child is starting to spend a lot of time under the water. Poorly fitted goggles waste a lot of lesson time, so please make sure your child’s goggles are the correct fit. We also try to spend some of the lesson time without goggles.

Q: What happens if my child misses a lesson? Do you offer make-up lessons?

A: Whenever feasible please let us know as early as possible when you are unable to attend a lesson. Even if your child wakes up sick that morning, this will enable someone else to book a make-up lesson in your absence.

Also please notify us of non-attendance even if you have no intentions of booking a make-up, this then allows places for those that do want to book make-ups.

The preferred way to notify us of a non-attendance is through our customer portal. You can access our customer portal by clicking on the “use app” button on our Facebook page. The portal will allow you to notify us of non-attendance and it will also show you the availability of classes that are at your child’s level, should you wish to book a makeup on a day and time that suits. If we are not notified of a non-attendance, no make-up lesson will be offered.

If you cannot attend a make-up lesson that you have booked, this lesson will be forfeited, we cannot offer make-up’s for make-ups.

Make-up lessons can be rolled over to the next term however the following conditions apply;

If they are not used within the next term they will expire at the end of that term. ie make-ups not used in term 3 can be carried forward to term 4 however if they are not used during term 4, they will not carry over to the next term, which would be term 1.

If you have an unused makeup from term 3 but choose not to enrol for term 4 this makeup will still expire at the end of term 4. You must be currently enrolled in a term to take advantage of the make-up policy.  You are unable to use make-ups outside of a current enrolment
